Patagonia Shoes is a world leader in performance and casual outdoor products, and Patagonia shoes are no exception. Patagonia's renown reputation comes from meticulous design and awareness of every ingredient used, and a vision for our footwear that includes being a leader in performance and environment. Top to bottom, Patagonia shoes are proving that it's not only possible, but beneficial to utilize environmentally friendly materials and practices in creating world-class shoes. This two-fold effort has both green-thinkers and performance buffs lauding our designs. (More info below).
Since 1985, Patagonia has pledged 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the natural environment. We've awarded over 31 million dollars in cash and in-kind donations to domestic and international grassroots enviro groups making a difference in their local communities.1% For The Planet is an alliance of businesses that understand the necessity of protecting the natural environment.

One Percent For The Planet
1% of your
Patagonia shoes purchase will be donated to enviro groups. Patagonia
has been pledging 1% of sales to the preservation and restoration of the
natural environment since 1985. Over 25 million dollars have been awarded
to enviro groups making a difference in their local communities.
Latex from Hevea Milk
Many of
our Patagonia footwear styles have latex in the outsoles or midsoles;
we use only latex from the milk of the hevea tree. The harvesting process
is good for the tree, and the milk has a microstructure that when cured
creates thousands of tiny air bubbles for natural cushioning.
Environmentally Responsible Leather
To ensure
that the leather in our footwear leaves the smallest possible footprint,
we use leather uppers only from tanneries registered as compliant with
ISO 14001 in Patagonia shoes. This set of environmental standards measures
how efficiently a company uses natural resources, how its processes impact
the environment and how closely it adheres to international and local
environmental regulations.
The Buzz on Hemp
We use hemp
in a variety of ways on our Patagonia shoes, including as a substrate
in some soles as well as material for uppers. Patagonia shoes made with
hemp require no break-in period, breathe better and smell better than
those made from leather or synthetics, and are less prone to bacterial
build-up, which is a lot healthier on the feet.
Vibram® EcoStep™ Outsoles
During the
shoe manufacturing process, scrap rubber is left on the cutting-room
floor. But that doesn't mean it
has to end up in a landfill. A number of our Patagonia soles are made
with up to 30% recycled scrap rubber that would otherwise be thrown away.
Recycled rubber is highly abrasion resistant and provides great traction
in all kinds of weather and terrain.
